About BMC CONTROL-M/Enterprise Manager 6.4: Scheduling - Part 2

This course is an introductory course that builds on knowledge and skills covered in the prerequisite Web-based course, BMC CONTROL-M/Enterprise Manager 6.x: Scheduling – Part 1.

This course is designed for IT professionals who are responsible for using CONTROL-M products to monitor and manage a production environment, whose responsibilities include creating job definitions.

The course covers product usage of CONTROL-M/EM and CONTROL-M/Desktop. CONTROL-M/EM is a monitoring and management tool for the enterprise production environment. It allows users to manage job processing across all platforms supported by CONTROL-M and CONTROL-M agents. Much of the course covers the creation of job processing definitions using the companion product CONTROL-M/Desktop.

Hands-on labs allow participants to apply the procedures and concepts presented in the class.

Course Objectives

  • Use and manage multiplatform CONTROL-M, through use of CONTROL-M/EM and CONTROL-M/Desktop
  • Create job processing definitions, including controlling the scheduling of jobs by a variety of means, using CONTROL-M/Desktop
  • Create and use confirmation calendars, scheduling windows, and scheduling symbols in job processing definitions
  • Create and use Periodic calendars
  • Set CONTROL-M/EM and CONTROL-M/Desktop GUI options
  • Define and manage prerequisite conditions for jobs, by creating Out condition and In condition definitions, and by deleting unneeded conditions
  • Use CONTROL-M/EM and CONTROL-M/Desktop to control job execution based on prerequisite job completion, availability of resources, or time
  • Create Scheduling Groups, a CONTROL-M feature that allows you to define prerequisite conditions for groups of jobs
  • Use CONTROL-M/Forecast, and the CONTROL-M command line utility ctmrpln, to analyze future job scheduling
  • Define variables in jobs
  • Create and manage CONTROL-M/EM Viewpoints and CONTROL-M/Desktop templates
  • Use CONTROL-M post-processing facilities to perform actions based on the completion status of jobs and messages generated by the operating system
  • Create Shouts (Alerts) that provide information to users about the status of jobs
  • Use the CONTROL-M/Enterprise Manager Reporting Facility to generate reports
  • Define and use Global Conditions to control the execution order of jobs across multiple data centers
